Needless to say, as this sort of democratic centralization increases, the stakes become higher and higher. The potential for violence becomes greater, and the disenfranchisement of minority groups becomes ever more palpable.

Mises understood well what the end game to this process is. It's political and social unrest — followed by political repression to "restore" order. War may even follow. For Mises, the need to guarantee localized self-determination was no mere intellectual exercise for political scientists. It was a matter essential to the preservation of peace and freedom. We would do well to take the matter as seriously as he did.

Many people have an overwhelming desire to live in a country with a
strong military force and if they live in a country that has the
strongest military force in the world and someone tries to take it
away, there will be a lot of screaming and kicking and weeping and
wailing and gnashing of teeth.

It's a manifestation of the authoritarian personality. The situation
is similar to the "my daddy can lick your daddy" syndrome.

A controlling person isn't trying to
be helpful. Their over-inflated ego
tells them that they are smarter & know
better than we do. They're wrong.

This is not limited to the military. Threaten to tackle anything away and you have the same reaction.

The reality is that votes can be bought and power can be sold. Legislators understand this reality. Power corrupts. The greater their power to create rights, dispense privileges, contracts or favors, the higher the price such officials command.

This is the dynamic that drives Politics as Usual – to grant the demands of some at the expense of others. Voting groups use politics to legislate money and privilege - taking it from others and giving it to themselves.

Look at elections. What happens when politicians threaten to lower spending? Those who lose money or favors organize against them and votes are lost.

Now, consider the back room deals for money and privileges. Why is lobbying a growth industry in a state that has been losing industries?

Politicians fill the treasury with our money and use it to buy votes.

Politics becomes irreconcilable. The solution is conflict and reset.

Needless to say, ...
It is astonishing to read Werner's continued posts of the largely
discredited Z/H.

Werner's come back is to say that the idea of the post should be
debated rather than attempts to discredit the author but in the
Z/H case it is not worth the bandwidth. That debate is like pissing
in the wind.
