Same to you, Islander, and to everyone else, even to
Werner and wizard.

Happy Xmas to all!

BTW, am I the only one to notice that folks are saying "Happy" Xmas instead of "Merry" Xmas these days. I find that a bit odd, don't you? It has always been "Merry Xmas" as I recall. Perhaps in a few years the greeting will be "HX"
and a "HNY" or if the demographers are correct it will be "Felez Navidad y Prospero Nuevo Ano".

And another BTW, one of my new year's resolutions is to be less snarky with Globy and the other idiots (and they know who they are) with my posties. I was listening to one of the pundits concerning how to not go mad during holiday get-to-gethers with relatives who have divergent views on everything. His suggestion was not to be snarky and he mentioned the propensity of snark in on-line discussions such as this. I may not last for more than 2 weeks of posties what with the nutters here-and they know who they are. <grin>

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!
Actually Islander and I both wished "Happy Holidays", not any
kind of "Christmas".

Why thank you, Islander. Did you have any particular
holiday in mind ? I've always looked forward to
Memorial Day myself. I suppose Hanukkah is one of your
favorites.

I wonder ... do you suppose any Americans still observe
Christmas ?

Good question. Islander has no comment about holidays that contain the word
Christ, since he knows better than you or I. Christ is a myth, and big
atheist government is the answer to all our problems.

I've noticed lately that "BC" is seldom if ever used in a scientific
or historical context. Now it's all "BCE" -- Before Common Era.

I have wondered why the Western population accepts such
idiocy. It is obviously an effort to alter and destroy our
culture and civilization. Much the same way that
"Holiday" has replaced Christmas. I wonder who is
responsible ? Which is what I can't understand. Were
it not for Christianity -- and Western culture --- the Jews
would have been buried in their desert homeland centuries
ago.
You wonder who is responsible? Huh? Liberal haters of Judeo Christian
religion of course.

The problem with Jews, although only European Jews, is that they are
smart -- very smart, too smart for their own good. Money, success, and
influence tends to gravitate towards intelligence, and that generates
resentment and jealousy. Too bad for Germany for kicking out it's
Jews. Germany, Japan, and the US all had nuclear weapons programs
during WWII, but only one country succeeded, and that was because we
got all the Jews they kicked out.

My dad owned a store, and did not care much for Jews because they had
a way of bargaining with him. Well, OK I admit that has been known to
happen. Then one day, in comes a Rabbi and his wife. My father thinks,
oh oh, the head Jew is here, I'm in trouble! So he jacks up his prices
to be prepared to lower them later -- only the Rabbi says, fine, I'll
take it. I think that bothered him for the rest of his life. (-8

By the way, did you know Columbus was probably Jewish, and Elvis was
Jewish? Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, and Richard
Rogers -- Jewish. I could list Jewish singers and movie stars, but the
list would be too long since they're all Jewish. (-8

I bet not many Jews claim Elvis. He is the only redneck
Jew I've ever heard of :-)

I ran across that list by accident. But it does puzzle
me why some people have always been so "down" on Jews.
Like you say -- they are smarter than average -- and I would
have thought that would be a plus for a neighbor.

I have a suspicion that one of my grandfathers was part
Jewish. But I've been unable to prove it. All I have is
the names of a couple of his kids. My aunts Mirriam and
Golda. Those don't sound like Baptists, do they :-)

My aunts Mirriam and
Golda. Those don't sound like Baptists, do they :-)
If your mother's mother was Jewish, you're as Jewish as Elvis. (-8

And, I mean that in the best possible way!
Why thank you, Islander. Did you have any particular
holiday in mind ? I've always looked forward to
Memorial Day myself. I suppose Hanukkah is one of your
favorites.
I wonder ... do you suppose any Americans still observe
Christmas ?
Good question. Islander has no comment about holidays that contain the word
Christ, since he knows better than you or I. Christ is a myth, and big
atheist government is the answer to all our problems.
Why would I insult anyone who is not a Christian? Wishing someone
"Happy Holidays" only insults people who are insecure in their faith.

And, when have I ever advocated a "big atheist government?" You are
assigning motives to me that are examples of your hyperbolic thinking.

I'm not a member of a Christian church -- nor have I ever
been. And I doubt you have less belief in the deity than
I do.

However -- I am a Christian because I was born in a
Christian country with a Christian culture. I feel that
referring to Christmas as "holiday" is backhanded slap to
our culture.

This country was pioneered by, settled by and founded by
Christians. (European Christians to be exact). I feel I
owe our great progenitors a little respect. If I lived
in Israel -- I'd be most respectful of their primary
holiday. (whatever it is). Not because I think it
anything above barbaric -- but because -- "When in Rome --
respect the Romans".

Oh, well. I hope you had a nice day ignoring and showing
contempt for what bothers you most. I probalby did the
same. I just did not make it public.

I don't see our country as "Christian" or any other religion. Our
country was founded on the belief that people should be free to choose
or not choose whatever they want as far as religion goes. That shows
respect to everyone and should not insult anyone except those who are so
insecure to think that not singling out one religion is an insult.

Perhaps next year I should just wish everyone a happy winter solstice.
Or do you feel threatened by that too?

Or, I notice that the minority population in Georgia is about to surpass
the white population so in order to introduce you to your new dominant
culture, perhaps I should just wish you a Happy Quanda! Then, by your
logic, "when in Rome..." you can learn how to show your respect.

I find it interesting the denigration by some (and they know who they are) of education, ability, achievement and intelligence of their betters. It is seen a great deal in remarks made by those mostly on the far right of the political spectrum. I guess they just feel threatened or maybe they are Draculas- they can't stand the light.

So, you don't think the atheist court was correct in banning Christian
nativity sceens in Santa Monica CA?

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2012/11/19/santa-monica-atheists-nativity-scenes-christmas/1714007/

A federal judge Monday denied a bid by churches to force Santa Monica to
reopen spaces in a city park to private displays, including life-sized
Christmas Nativity scenes.
The city shut down the six-decade tradition last year after a bitter dispute
between religious groups and atheists, who overwhelmed the city's auction
process for display sites, winning most of the 21 slots.

And I might add, the atheists who won the auction slots did nothing with the
spaces. They were left empty, with nothing of interest.

What makes you think that it is an atheist court? The issue seems to be

It was a clear case of "the war on Christmas" and you know that. If it's an
issue of 1st amendment, how come the white house still has a nativity scene?
Or is that too big a nut to crack? Maybe the atheists will win next time?

We don't have a national religion -- per se. But we are
the product of Christians. No Jews or Muslims founded this
country. They only arrived after the Christians made the
country safe ... and profitable. I have no doubt that
what the Founders meant when they said "freedom of religion"
was -- freedom of any "Christian" religion. It was so
obvious to them, they didn't think to spell it out. (I'm
surprised the SCOTUS hasn't been able to "find" that fact in
the Constitution.)

I consider myself a Christian in the same way a lot of
non-relgious Jews consider themselves Jews. I was born
into the culture -- so therefore I am one.

There is no denying that Georgia has become a cultural
cesspool... and getting worse daily But me ..... the
eternal optimist -- keeps trying to look at the bright side.

Something just dawned on me the other day. Prior to WW2
-- what was the greatest country on Earth ? England, of
course. What else is England ? One of the most
mongrolized countries on Earth. Early hunter-gatherers
floated in from Spain -- and parts unknown. Then came
various European settlers. Later came the Celts, the
Druids and the Picts. Then came Rome. Then came the
Anglos and the Saxons. And all of those people bred with
the earlier inhabitants. So when England began her empire
circa 1600 -- she was a polyglot of genes and cultures.

And ... I'm a descendant of that genetic mess ! But it
gives me hope for the future.

So maybe as Georgia progresses downward from white to black
its morals will loosen up -- and it will rise again as
mulattos ! The black blood should make future generations
physically stronger. Some Jewish and Muslim infusion will
make them a little smarter. Then in 300 or 400 years,
Georgia's culture and civilization will be back as advanced
as it was in 1860. (I just hope they don't start planting
cotton!)

And ... I'm a descendant of that genetic mess ! But it
gives me hope for the future.
So maybe as Georgia progresses downward from white to black
its morals will loosen up -- and it will rise again as
mulattos ! The black blood should make future generations
physically stronger. Some Jewish and Muslim infusion will
make them a little smarter. Then in 300 or 400 years,
Georgia's culture and civilization will be back as advanced
as it was in 1860. (I just hope they don't start planting
cotton!)
I keep telling you that there is an evolutionary benefit to diversity!

You mean like when Neanderthal mated with the ape ? I
wonder what we would be like today had he not done that ?
Maybe it would have taken less than 100,000 years for our IQ
to have risen to 100.

I agree diversity benefits evolution. But not ...
civilized culture.

Gheeeze! An IQ of 100 for a period 100,000 years ago would have no more
unusual than an IQ of 100 today if it had been measured. The IQ scale
is based on a median IQ defined as 100.

Is intelligence improving? Yes. It is called the Flynn effect.

Otherwise, your claims for "culture" are typical of right wing code word
for bigotry.

Maybe to a small degree of bigotry. But I honestly feel
that way, and hate to see 3,000 years of culture flushed
down the diversity toilet. I know you think I hate
blacks. But that is not so. I only detest the ones who
refuse to accept our culture and become Americans.
Civilized blacks -- I like. I had breakfast with one last
week.

Let us promote and praise middle class black Americans.
While we flush the A-free-can A-Merry-cans.

Better yet:

And, I mean that in the best possible way!
I second your assertion.
