"Mini Ice Age to hit Earth in 2020 and last 30 years, causing extreme
winters"
"The Sun is going to experience its lowest activity in over 200 years
in 2020. During this time, Earth will enter a “mini ice age” where
there will be food shortage and extremely cold winters. The average
temperature could even drop as much as one degree Celsius in one year.
According to the data from NASA, this is because the Earth is about to
experience a “solar minimum.”"
https://newslanded.com/2020/02/04/mini-ice-age-2020-solar-minimum/

Others claim this is untrue, and any solar minimum will be more than
offset by global warming -- still, what just happened in Texas is
rather unusual.

Not unusual. When you add energy to a system, you can expect it to
react unpredictably.

Perhaps, but the infamous Maunder Minimum was characterized by low or
no sunspot activity, and ...

Magnetic Polarity Transitions and Biospheric Effects

Published 2010

Space Science Reviews
This review addresses possible biospheric effects of geomagnetic
polarity transitions. During a transition the magnetic field at the
surface of the Earth decreases to about 10% of its current value. If the
geomagnetic field is a shield against energetic particles of solar or
cosmic origin then biospheric effects can be expected. We review the
early speculations on the problem and discuss in more detail its current
status. We conclude that no clear picture of a geomagnetic link, a
causal relation between secular magnetic field variations and the
evolution of life on our planet can be drawn.

Unfortunately in the case of a pole reversal we are unlikely to know
the truth until we have experienced the event.
The reversals are evidently not predictable events, but there have been
a lot of them over time. The most interesting work that I have seen is
in the measurement of magnetic polarity in the seabed in ocean trenches
where the plates have been opening at a fairly constant rate over time.
This leaves behind a permanent recording of magnetic polarity as new
magma emerges to fill the opening trench. From these measurements, we
can construct a record of not only the magnetic flips, but also the
duration of minimums and even how the poles meandered over the surface
of the earth. Unfortunately, there is no evidence to suggest that the
changes had any significant impact on the biosphere other than a
possible acceleration of evolution during periods of increased cosmic
rays. This is interesting stuff, but we have more immediate problems to
solve during what is left of our lifetimes.
